Red River Army Depot RCRA facility investigation
Fort Hood RCRA Sub-Part X permit
U.S. Army Camp Bullis RCRA facility investigation
GMI provides comprehensive environmental management services in compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Our services include strategic planning to help determine long-term remediation goals and the corrective action process; preparation of the RFI work plans, including Health and Safety Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plans; implementation of the RFI work plans, including site investigation (soil sampling, drilling, geology, hydrogeology, surface hydrology, and ecology), risk assessment, groundwater modeling, and preparation of RFI reports. Corrective measure studies (CMS) include specialized sampling, bench-scale and pilot-scale testing. Corrective action encompasses the design and construction of appropriate remedies, including groundwater recovery and treatment systems, slurry walls, RCRA caps, waste stabilization, fixation, and solidification, and constructed wetlands.
GMI acquired data to define the nature and extent of contamination at the Red River Army Depot (RRAD). Specifically, this investigation aimed to identify specific chemicals of potential concern (COPCs); provide data on compounds that have not been analyzed previously (e.g., semi-volatile organic compounds [SVOCs]), and provide additional data for evaluation of a potentially complete exposure pathway. The investigative techniques included the performance of 16 shallow borings to 10 feet below grade; 15 shallow borings to 2 feet below grade; six deep borings to 45 feet below grade; and conversion of six 10-foot borings and six 45-foot borings into 2-inch diameter monitor wells. In addition 30 surface sediment soil samples from buildings and drainage pathways were obtained for the assessment of impacted media at the site.
Fort Hood, Killeen Texas, was required by the TCEQ to amend both their Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) permit Parts A and B for the open burn/open detonation (OB/OD) site addressed in the Sub-Part X submittal. The amendments were required under the air permit and also because of Fort Hood's plan to officially close the OB portion of the site which had been inactive for several years. GMI assisted the Fort Hood environmental staff with these amendments, particularly portions relating to regional as well as site-specific geology and geohydrology. GMI then performed a site visit to the OB/OD site to map the site soil, rock outcrop, and surface water distribution as well as observe and map any potential evidence of tectonic activity such as open fractures, springs, bedrock distortion, etc.
GMI performed an RFI for five Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs)
in accordance with Permit No. HW-50335 Provision VII. and the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Waste Programs
Enforcement Office of Solid Waste (OSWER) Directive 9902.3-2A RCRA
Corrective Action Plan (CAP. GMI also incorporated existing
information to complete the requirements for the Camp Bullis RFI.
