PLANO, TEXAS (September 23, 2009)

Geo-Marine, Inc., The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation, and the City of Plano are sponsoring the seventh annual Archaeology Fair in conjunction with Texas Archaeology Month (October). The fair is a public outreach program to increase public awareness of historic preservation and to provide hands-on experiences for children between the ages of 7 and 12. Duane Peter and Michelle Wurtz of Geo-Marine are responsible for the management of the fair. They are supported by Geo-Marine, Inc. staff members who provide the professional archaeological expertise to guide excavation experiences for the children. Members of the Tarrant and Dallas County Archeological Societies support this effort.

The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation, led by Bonnie Peter, provides craft activities which teach the children about skills, such as processing food, making pottery vessels and baskets, and building houses, used by prehistoric people. Local High School Honor Society Members provide much needed assistance in overseeing these activities.

Local Native American dancers allow fair-goers to experience the song and dance of various tribes who inhabited the North Texas area. Mr. Mike McBride demonstrates how prehistoric people made stone tools and Mr. David Shanabrook, a local geologist, provides engaging tours of the Rowlett Creek channel.

Geo-Marine, Inc. invites the public to be a part of this unique experience.
