Whitt and Lunsman speak to Texas Master Naturalists

PLANO, TEXAS (April 19, 2007)

Amy Whitt and Tamara Lunsman from the Plano office gave presentations to the Blackland Prairie Master Naturalists at the Ronald E. Gentry Fire Training Center in Allen, Texas on April 18. The Texas Master Naturalist program is a venture directed toward developing local corps of "master volunteers" to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities. This unique master volunteer program is supported by a partnership among the Texas Cooperative Extension, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and some 260+ local partners. The presentations served as part of the training required for volunteers to gain or retain their designation as Texas Master Naturalists.

Lunsman presented information on wetlands and focused specifically on the types of wetlands found in Texas and the impacts to these areas. Whitt discussed the marine life found in the Gulf of Mexico and focused on some of the protected species (corals, fish, sea turtles, marine mammals) in the region as well as the natural and human impacts on these species.
